A good number of off-road enthusiasts would say that driving in such road conditions requires a vehicle that is up to the task. Chevrolet has been known to produce a vehicle that meets the high demands of off-road driving: the Chevy Blazer.
For a good fifty years, the Chevy Blazer has been among the most popular Sports Utility Vehicles (SUV) worldwide. Since it shares its nameplate with two other unrelated model lines, Chevrolet has attached the label, “K5 Blazer” to the Blazer’s name to distinguish the two-door convertible SUVs beginning in 1969. All through the 1980’s and early 1990’s, Chevy continued to produce the full-size two-door SUVs. Chevrolet then took the production of SUVs to another level by manufacturing the Blazer’s four-door version. Then, in 1994, Chevrolet changed the Blazer’s name into the now widely popular Tahoe.
The Chevrolet K5 Blazer was considered as the smallest SUV/truck in the General Motors truck family. Created to compete with Toyota’s 4Runner and the Ford Bronco, the first Blazer to be released was the S-10 Blazer which was brought to the market in the fall of 1983. The S-10 Blazer sprang from the idea of the S-10 pick-up which was introduced only a year earlier. The release of the S-10 Blazer flamed the general public’s further interest in what was to be one of the most popular vehicle concepts, the SUV.
From its humble beginnings, the Chevy Blazer has come a long way. With the evolution of the concept of Sports Utility Vehicles and with its gaining popularity, Chevrolet is most certainly blazing the trail and taking the lead in SUV manufacture.
